GRANT MAKES C-TECH TRAINING POSSIBLE

Students at EDEC High Impact and McCrossan Ranch now have access to training in the area of low-voltage cabling. This training is made available because of a grant awarded to EDEC by the South Dakota Department of Education during the 2007-08 school year.

The C-TECH training program is a nationally recognized program which trains students in telecommunications, copper, and fiber optic cabling. Two teachers recently completed a five day training program to become certified instructors. They are now moving immediately to make this hands-on, gender-neutral education available to students at both of these EDEC locations. Students who successfully complete this premier training will be eligible for industry wide recognized certification as Network Cabling Specialists, Voice Communication Specialists, and Smart Home Professionals. Students will also have the opportunity to follow up their classroom training with Youth Internships at area ompanies. This training, coupled with education to reinforce their career marketability, will prepare the students for entry level employment in this rewarding and interesting career field. Because of the stability and potential for advancement in this field, the C-TECH training is best described as:

“SHORT TERM TRAINING FOR LONG TERM CAREERS”.
